Is Copywriting Dead?

Post Category: Internet Marketing

The internet is vastly changing each and every day as web developers and programmers create new software, applications, plugins, platforms, and more. A video spokesperson web application is a perfect example. The internet users are changing the face of the internet as they upload their own content through text, audio, and video.

YouTube is the most powerful online video website today and their are millions and millions of people who are recording their own videos and sharing them with the world. There are a multiple of podcast websites that allow users to create their own audios and share them with the world.

The content sharing websites like Squidoo, Gather, Hubpages and more are providing a way for internet users to upload audio and video to the site instead of just text.

So this does raise a very good question. Is copywriting dead? While it is very apparent that audio and video is becoming more of a popular means to distribute content and information the main question is who is writing what is being said in these audios or videos?

Many people go to the movie theaters to see the celebrities, the plots, and to be entertained. Yet most times when people go to the movies they talk about the actors, the story, the directors and producers. Those who are writers do not get a lot of glory for the most part.

However they did when they went on strike not to long ago and there were reruns of a lot of television programs. This is perhaps one of the few times that those writers received any publicity.

So to the question of is there a need for writers I would say yes.

But what about when it comes to websites and sales pages where people are trying to sell their products and services? Is there any need to have good copywriting when you can record an audio or a video and sell your customers that way?

This is a very interesting question. I would say that all of these are powerful forms at attracting attention. It is proven however that people inherently like to watch things more than read things, especially online. For example their are a lot of people who watch movies that are based off of books, but have not read the book.

How valuable are copywriters today compared to years ago? We would like to know your thoughts, comments, and feedback of what you think.

Sorry, but I think this notion is way off the mark.

There will always be a place for good copywriting. Just visit any of thousands of poorly communicated messages throughout the Web for evidence.

And not everyone wants video or audio, despite their obvious benefits.

Copywriting is not dead at all.

Yes. Audio and video based sales messages are fantastic conversion boosters, but the WORDS that are said in the audios and videos are still copy.

You need to give as much (if not more) attention to good persuasive language in audio and video messages.

Words = copy. Regardless of the medium or format.

    Eric
